Details: GAMA Healthcare
Location: Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England
Design & Fit Out: Oktra
GAMA Healthcare aimed to create an infection prevention superhub that would support their long-term rapid growth, reflect their company values and serve as a strategic asset in achieving their commercial goals. With the building already fitted to a high Cat A standard, workplace design and build experts Oktra further elevated the space by connecting two floors with a striking bleacher seating area that doubles as a staircase, forming the central hub of the workspace.
Designed to accommodate a company-wide hybrid working model, the office prioritises agile spaces and flexibility over traditional workstations. Mobile furniture elements allow employees to personalise their environments, fostering a dynamic and adaptable workspace. Two treehouse-style meeting rooms, located in the building’s rafters, feature glass walls offering breathtaking views of the bleacher seating area below.
Sustainability was also a key focus, with the project earning a Gold SKA Rating and achieving a 99% waste recycling rate during construction. The new workplace also includes a world-class healthcare environment, featuring a complete hospital suite designed by LSI, the UK’s leading healthcare architects, as well as an adjacent classroom area for academic study. This facility will play a vital role in GAMA’s mission to train 10,000 NHS staff.
Highlights from my photography of the workspace can be seen below.
