Details: Photobox Group at Herbal House

Location: Black Hill, Farringdon, London, England

Architect: Buckley Gray Yeoman & Allied London

Design & Fit Out: Oktra

Photobox Group aimed to transform the historic Herbal House printworks into their new London headquarters, restoring the building’s legacy as a hub for creativity and high-profile business. For such an ambitious and large-scale project they hired design and build leaders Oktra. The result is a sensational.

The open-plan layout focuses collaboration across different brands and supports the company’s desire for an agile workplace that moves beyond traditional desk setups. Photobox Group chose to preserve and highlight the industrial character of the building, incorporating original concrete walls, pillars, ceilings and even an original crane hanging over the reception. These elements contrast with the modern, clean, and colorful design and furnishings throughout the space.

The four floors use the CMYK print colours, a nod to the printing industry at the heart of the building’s history. These floors surround a vast industrial atrium which serves as a dedicated events space visible from all areas of the headquarters.

My photography of the project spans almost 18 months, commencing with the bare-bones of the space, following the complete removal of the exisiting fit-out, and coming to a conclusion on launch day for the client. The full set of images, a small selection of which are showcased below, document the cohesive inteior design, together with highlighting the interior and exterior architecture of the historic building the project is housed within.
